Susanne Sattler, MSc, PhD (She/her/hers)

Research Fellow at Imperial College London

Susanne Sattler, MSc PhD, is a research fellow at Imperial College London, UK. Her major research interest is the cellular and molecular crosstalk between the immune system and the heart. Susanne currently leads the cardio-immunology team at the National Heart and Lung Institute aiming to characterise the role of the immune response in cardiac tissue immunopathology during systemic autoimmunity as well as after myocardial injury, and how immunomodulation may support cardiac regenerative medicine.

Susanne obtained her PhD at the Medical University of Vienna working on the interplay between innate immune recognition and the vascular system. She then moved to Imperial College for her postdoctoral project during which she studied the role of regulatory B cells in tissue immunopathology. Since starting her independent research program she has focussed on the adaptive immune system and immunomodulation in cardiac regeneration. Susanne’s team now explores options to improve tissue regeneration by immune-modulatory therapies and also investigates the immunogenetic basis underlying the susceptibility of developing anti-heart autoimmunity.

Outside of research, Susanne is passionate about teaching, research supervision and science outreach and advocates for equal opportunities for all.
